The aim of the most recent DIY SOS project, based locally to Earth Cycle HQ in Arundel, was to help mother of four Amanda Newton after her brakes failed whilst cycling down Bury Hill. The accident left Amanda paralysed and a wheelchair user for the rest of her life, meaning her existing house no longer met her day-to-day needs.
The nine-day project involved a renovation of the garden to make it accessible for Amanda. Earth Cycle’s Topsoil Supreme and Ornamental Bark were used to fill raised beds at the front and back of the house including surrounding a new shed.
The Earth Cycle team also donated their time and spent several days on site helping with everything from loading soil to painting the garden fence. Changes to Amanda’s home included the widening of doorways, adapting the kitchen, as well as creating a wet room and an accessible bedroom.
