About us
Earth Cycle produces and supplies locally‑made, peat‑free gardening and landscaping products and garden essentials, backed by sustainable practices.
Part of The Woodhorn Group, we're a family-run business that includes an organic dairy and arable farm and green waste recycling business.
Sustainable composting for a greener future
Our dedicated team work across three sites in West Sussex and Hampshire. It's here that we recycle garden waste from households and businesses across West Sussex to produce a range of nourishing peat free products including composts, soil conditioners, topsoils, turfs and mulches.
As a family owned business we have a strong set of values. It’s not what we do, it’s the way in which we do it that matters most to us.
Acting ethically and sustainably
Creating quality eco-friendly soils and composts from local green waste, which would otherwise be going to landfill
Championing green spaces
Helping people to enjoy their outdoor spaces, with the understanding that time ‘in the green’ can boost mental health and wellbeing
Celebrating our roots
Based on the Chichester Plains near the South Downs and owned and managed by a fourth generation farming family, with appreciation of our reliance on the environment
Making an impact
Acting with honesty and authenticity, and supporting community initiatives where we can, to help gardens, gardeners and green spaces thrive
Explore our process
Peat-free and recycled compost protects peat bogs, reduces waste, and improves soil quality, leading to healthier, thriving gardens and allotments.
1. Recycling green waste
We divert almost 100,000 tonnes of green waste from landfill every year. It reaches us from local collections and landscapers and is shredded to kick start the composting process.
2. The composting process
Our compost is created over a 14 week process. It's actively managed, turned regularly and can reach up to 80 degrees centigrade, which kills off bugs and nasties!
3. Screening and testing
We then carefully sort and screen the compost, removing any small items of plastic or rubble which remain, before carefully lab testing it to check it's safe and ready for gardens!
4. Ready for your garden
Our skilled and friendly warehouse team will pick and pack your order, or arrange your bulk bag for delivery. We aim to use as little packaging as possible. Our bags and boxes can be reused or recycled.
