A key part of Earth Cycle is to give back and it was an absolute pleasure to donate to the popular construction television show, DIY SOS: The Big Build! We’ve currently donated product to 3 builds across the UK and our first aired on the 22nd June 2017.
We donated 15 Topsoil Supreme bulk bags to a deserving family from Telford who were featured on the flagship BBC One program, as part of a life-changing transformation to their home.
The aim of the project was to help 11-year-old Matthew Cooper return to his family home after months at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. We volunteered our services alongside a number of tradespeople and suppliers to help make Matthew’s home suitable for his needs, after a brain and spinal cancer diagnosis left him paralysed in 2015.
Changes to Matthew’s home involved a downstairs extension that will facilitate his bespoke care provision including a physio space, wet-room and social space, as well as the ability to access the entire ground floor.
The nine-day project involved a complete renovation of the garden to make it accessible for Matthew. Earth Cycle’s Topsoil Supreme was used to fill all of the raised beds in the front and back garden of the property and create a sensory area with plants such as chives, lavender, oregano and coriander.
The build was a great success and has made Matthew’s journey home that much easier.
