St. Wilfrid’s Hospice TreeCycle Scheme 2024
Around seven million real Christmas trees are bought in the UK every year. But what happens to them after they’ve done their festive job in our homes? Here at Earth Cycle we’ve found a great way of helping people to recycle their Christmas trees whilst supporting a fantastic local charity.
The St Wilfrid’s Hospice TreeCycle scheme allows real Christmas trees to be collected in return for a donation to the Hospice, helping to support the care which the service offers to local people with life-limiting illnesses.
We’re very proud to be partnering with St Wilfrid’s Hospice in Chichester to sponsor this scheme. We’ll be working with the Hospice team to encourage local people in the Chichester area to recycle their trees in exchange for a minimum donation of £15. The trees will be collected from people’s homes and taken to our green waste site in Tangmere for composting. This is a lovely way to encourage green waste recycling and support a local charity which manages entirely on contributions. Last year the scheme saw over 1,100 trees collected and recycled and this year we hope to gather at least 1,500.
When can I recycle my Christmas tree?
From 12th – 15th January 2024 a team of volunteers, including some of us at Earth Cycle, will be heading out around Chichester and the surrounding areas to pick up real Christmas trees and take them to be recycled into compost, mulch and wood chippings for local farmlands. Once they’ve been dropped off at our two collection points in Chichester, our Earth Cycle truck will be scooping them up and whizzing them down to Tangmere for recycling.

St Wilfrid’s Hospice
St Wilfrid’s Hospice is a charity providing care and support for those in the community who are in the last phase of their lives. Care is offered at the Hospice building, in the person’s own home or at a care home. The Hospice also supports families and carers and offers a wide range of services, providing physical, emotional, social, psychological and spiritual support. The team work closely with health and social care professionals, including GPs and community nurses.
