Sustainable gardening – growing roots with Lynne Lambourne

Share

Earlier this year we began working with garden designer – and warrior on waste – Lynne Lambourne. Lynne was planning some exciting garden projects with young people and took delivery of our No Dig Compost and Beds and Borders Compost.

Here are some of her thoughts on the order process, and her experience of using Earth Cycle products:

“I’ve been a keen gardener for many years, and from my home in Henley-on-Thames grow flowers and all sorts of veg, so am always looking for top-quality products to help me make my projects a success.

Earth Cycle caught my eye given the team’s real focus on sustainability and eco-friendly products. All the composts and topsoils they create are peat-free, organic and locally sourced too. It felt like a perfect pairing given my focus on climate-conscious gardening.

After ordering a couple of large bags – one of No Dig Compost and another of Beds and Borders Compost – the delivery experience was swift and easy. The driver could not have been more helpful in delivering my tonne bags, and I couldn’t wait to get stuck in!

I could tell from the smell and look of both composts that they were great quality. I used the No Dig Compost to help make a large potato patch with the children in my Warriors on Waste group. This initiative focuses on teaching the next generation about how to grow their own food – such an important topic particularly in light of the cost of living crisis, food waste and climate change.

The Beds and Borders compost was put to use in my raised beds. It was literally like adding rocket fuel!

After just a few weeks we could see how well the veg was growing. Now, a few months on, the potato patch is thriving. Earth Cycle’s compost is clearly full of the right nutrients as everything is producing so well; my potatoes are flourishing and the leaves are turning yellow and going floppy which means they are nearly ready to harvest. The rest of the veg in the raised beds is doing brilliantly too, I have so many lettuces and the courgettes and herbs are growing well. Great growing comes from great soil”.
