Celebrating National Gardening Day 2022

Share

Spring has sprung which means it’s time to get into your gardens and get your hands dirty just in time for National Gardening Day 2022. It officially takes place on April 14th to encourage gardeners to spend time celebrating their gardens and to give gardening newbies the opportunity to experiment and start gardening.

National Gardening Day really is for absolutely everyone, no matter their age or ability. This day has been celebrated annually for quite a long time, and it’s easy to see why. Many avid gardeners and complete beginners from all over the globe take this day as an opportunity to get well and truly stuck into things and plant something new. Although people only have a day to celebrate, the effects always last a whole lot longer.

Get Ready for National Gardening Day 2022

As well as it being a great excuse to prepare your garden for summer and get it looking colourful, gardening also has many other benefits, like exercise. Planting and weeding can involve a fair bit of moving around which is bound to get your heart pumping. More benefits of gardening are that it’s also known to relieve stress and help improve mental health as for most it is a calming activity.

Gardening is a good way to socialise with friends and family whether that’s through doing gardening with them or by encouraging you to make sure your garden is looking gorgeous for an occasion to spend with them.

Preparing National Gardening Week 2022

Why not use National Gardening Day as an early start to get your gardens looking prize-winning in time for National Gardening Week 2022 which takes place the week commencing May 2nd.. The theme this year is ‘the joy of gardening’, which was inspired by the opening of the new RHS Community Gardens to give people a space to share and grow their joy for gardening.

There will be activities taking place at all five RHS Gardens over National Gardening Week so why not have a look at the RHS website and take part?

How to Celebrate National Gardening Day

There are many ways that you can celebrate National Gardening Day, and you don’t even need to have a garden! For example, you could:

Start a Gardening Course

By signing up for a gardening course near you or online, you can figure out brand new and exciting ways to become even more ‘green-fingered’, as well as experience lots of advice from both local horticultural experts and gardeners from all around the world.

Get Your Own Allotment

Getting an allotment of your own is a fantastic way to celebrate National Gardening Day, especially if you live in a flat or an apartment, or simply don’t have a lot of access to a garden of your own. An allotment grants you the freedom to grow anything you want to.

Visiting Your Local Nursery

Paying a visit to your local garden centre or nursery can be a great way to gain inspiration, as well as pick up tips and tricks from the people you meet. This is one of the best places to visit if you’re a novice gardener, or just are a little stuck for ideas as to where to start your gardening adventure.

Other ideas surrounding how to celebrate National Gardening Day 2022 include:

–   Sharing your wonderful work with others on social media using the hashtag #NationalGardeningDay

–   Looking for a community garden in your area

–   Organising a seed or plant swap with your neighbours and friends
